Palm Springs Pride is a unique pride festival and the largest LGBTQ gathering in the Coachella Valley. The festival underwent a major change in , when the Palm Springs High School marching band joined in the parade among the other vehicles and participants.

What has changed throughout the years is the people themselves. Hairgrove believes that the growth in numbers is a reflection of how the community wants to come together to celebrate their friends or family in the LGBT community. That, he said, is a good signal to the kids and helps everything evolve.

Wilkerson had been living in Palm Springs for years before attending her first Pride parade to watch her son march. Palm Canyon Drive is home to a friendly Pride Festival unique to Southern California. In the near year history of the Greater Palm Springs Pride Festival, the celebration has evolved to include more events, more activities and more people.

The parade route was centered around Demuth Park when restrictions on parades were enforced on North Palm Canyon. But locals remember when the event attracted far fewer people than it does now. The mood was upbeat, but there was heavy participation by gay men, said Cathedral City Councilman Greg Pettis.
